Telecommunications Information Notice 25-06 Dialing Instructions for HVS Customers to Reach Numbers Beginning with 933 Prefix
June 26, 2025
The Office of Technology Services would like to alert HVS customers to an issue with using seven-digit dialing to reach numbers that begin with the 933 prefix. When HVS customers dial the first three digits (933-), they are connected to the 933 test service and are unable to complete the call to the intended number. Dialing the full ten-digit telephone number, including the area code, will resolve the issue. In other words, to call 933-XXXX, dial XXX-933-XXXX.
The 933 test service is used to verify emergency location information that is provided to first responders. It is not intended for regular use. Recently, there has been a significant increase in calls to the 933 test service. This appears to be happening as the 933 prefix becomes more commonly used. The increase in calls to the 933 test service is adversely impacting 911 routing and record-keeping processes. Dialing the complete ten-digit telephone number beginning with the area code will help minimize unnecessary calls to the 933 test service.
