Telecommunications Information Notice 23-01 billing changes for lan support (data dialtone to managed lan)
January 12, 2023
OTS has begun a billing conversion effort for LAN support in which all Data Dialtone Desktop service will be moved to Managed LAN service. The billing model and the invoice on which the service is billed are both changing.
- Data Dialtone Desktop service is billed at a rate of $20/port on the OTS Network Services (OTM) invoice; bill detail shows these charges as individual DDIALDSK items.
- Managed LAN service is billed at a rate of $96/8-port unit on the OTS proper invoice; bill detail shows the quantity of MLAN units per location. The number of 8-port units billed to each agency is determined by the number of switches and ports required to provide LAN service at each location.
- Additionally, whereas DDIALDSK service includes the cost of connecting a site back to the OTS backbone, MLAN service does not. As a result, some circuits that were previously not billed separately to agencies will be after the conversion.
This is a billing-only conversion. Network technology conversions and upgrades are handled as a separate project or order for each site. As this billing conversion is made for a given location, all DDIALDSK billing is removed from the agency's OTS Network Services (OTM) invoice. In the same month, new MLAN billing is added to the agency's OTS proper invoice. Some agencies will also see new circuit charges on their OTS Network Services (OTM) invoice for upstream connectivity.
